Proposed Legislation - 106th Congress




Proposed legislation emerging from Special Committee on Aging of the 106th Congress. Significant actions on bills are noted in RED

S. 2477 A bill to amend the Social Security Act to provide additional safeguards for beneficiaries with representative payees under the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance program or the Supplemental Security Income program.

S. 2420 A bill to amend Title 5, United States Code, to provide for the establishment of a program under which long-term care insurance is made available to Federal employees, members of the uniformed services, and civilian and military retirees, and for other purposes. On 7/25/2000 the Senate incorporated this measure in H.R. 4040 as an amendment. On 9/19/2000 the bill became Public Law No: 106-265.

S. 2378 A bill to amend titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act to improve the safety of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and for other purposes.

S. 2225 A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow individuals a deduction for qualified long-term are insurance premiums use of such insurance under cafeteria plans and flexible spending arrangements, and a credit for individuals with long-term care needs.

S. 1417 A bill to amend Title XIX of the Social Security Act to extend the authority of State Medicaid fraud control units to investigate and prosecute fraud in connection with Federal health care programs and abuse of residents of board and care facilities.

S. 1350 A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to expand the availability of medical savings account.

S. 1277 A bill to amend Title XIX of the Social Security Act to establish a new prospective payment system for Federally-qualified health centers and rural health clinics.

S. 960 A bill to amend the Older Americans Act of 1965 to establish pension counseling programs, and for other purposes.

S. 840 A bill to amend title 11, United States Code, to provide for health care and employee benefits, and for other purposes.

S. 707 A bill to amend the Older Americans Act of 1965 to establish a national family caregiver support program, and for other purposes.

S. 472 A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide certain medicare beneficiaries with an exemption to the financial limitations imposed on physical, speech-language pathology, and occupational therapy services under part B of the Medicare program, and for other purposes.

S. 256 A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to promote the use of universal product numbers on claims forms submitted for reimbursement under the Medicare program.

S. 255 A bill to combat waste, fraud, and abuse in payments for home health services provided under the Medicare program, and to improve the quality of those home health services. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to promote the use of universal product numbers on claims forms submitted for reimbursement under the Medicare program.

S. 60 A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide equitable treatment for contributions by employees to pension plans.

S. 37 A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to repeal the restriction on payment for certain hospital discharges to post-acute care imposed by section 4407 of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.

S. 36 A bill to amend title 5, United States Code, to provide for the establishment of a program under which long-term care insurance may be obtained by Federal employees and annuitants.

S. 35 A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow a deduction for the long-term care insurance costs of all individuals who are not eligible to participate in employer-subsidized long-term care health plans
