Seniors have become the fastest growing group of Internet users. Because of this, a number of websites and organizations cater specifically to the computer training and resource needs of senior citizens. The following links are a compilation of websites that provide computer training, technological news, helpful tips, and tutorial resources of interest to seniors.

Our articles on seniors and computers generated a lot of letters on local efforts and commercial and non-profit groups that are bringing seniors online. Our special section on Connecting the Senior Citizen provides a variety of interesting perspectives.

The Internet and Older Adults
Fifty years ago at the first National Conference on Aging, older adult advocates called upon society to create more opportunities for the engagement and empowerment of older adults. This Administration on Aging site provides evidence of our progress, especially with use of the Internet, in achieving that goal.

AgeLight
AgeLight is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) that performs technology consultancy focused on generational audiences and emerging demographics. As a public service, AgeLight provides a directory of active adult training programs. A number of the programs listed provide computer-training opportunities.

AgeLight also provides white papers on web site design and usability tips to customize computers and Internet Appliances for older computer users.

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association dedicated to shaping and enriching the experience of aging for our members and for all Americans. Computers Made Easy (For Senior Citizens)
Computers Made Easy is a non-profit Web site designed to help retired folks understand how computers work and locate some resources for improving their computing skills. The site links to many free Internet tutorials and other instructional sites along with information about organizations, research techniques and other resources.

CyberSeniors -- 4-H Internet Training for Seniors on Medicare 
Teens Teaching Internet Skills was developed by the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, the Health Care Financing Administration and local 4-H Youth Technology Team leaders. These parties have joined to make the Medicare website and other Internet sites accessible to senior citizens in communities around the country.  

Eldertek - Training Maryland Seniors
Based in Columbia, MD, Eldertek works under partnership arrangements with the operators and residents of eldercare facilities to provide  fully equipped Technology Centers and hands-on training and coaching.  Currently, they have these centers set up in ten Maryland and one New Jersey location.

FreeSkills
FreeSkills provides online training within every budget - FREE! This site currently hosts over 200 full online training courses - Over 35,000 pages of professionally developed, high quality content pages. All of this training material can be viewed free online using the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader. No user registration is required to enter this site, simply choose a course by clicking on a Course List and start learning.

Generations on Line
Dedicated to providing free Internet access and literacy, particularly to a low income population. Generations on Line is available to libraries, senior centers, subsidized housing facilities, nursing homes and retirement centers nationwide. The self-teaching program guides novice seniors with no computer experience onto learning and using the Internet, with search in 25 languages and free email as well as links to Social Security and Medicare.

Non-Profit Website for Computer Education, Training, and Tutorial Resources
This website provides free knowledge, information, references, and resources about computers. Learn how to develop and write computer programs and applications. Study how to implement, administer, and manage computer systems, networks, intranets, web sites, servers, middleware, scripting, & object-oriented software.

Seniors On-Line
Seniors On-Line helps seniors, age 50 plus, to enjoy the many benefits of personal computers and the Internet with maximum ease, and minimum expense. SeniorNet
The nonprofit SeniorNet provides adults 50+ access to and education about computer technology and the Internet to enhance their lives and enable them to share their knowledge and wisdom. SeniorNet Learning Centers provide computer training and resources at locations near you.  There is also a free, self-paced tutorial that contains, in four lessons, information about the Web, explanations about how information is collected and organized and tips for how to find things on the Internet.

SeniorTips.Com provides senior-oriented technical information about PC and Internet issues. The site provides specific keyboard tips, mouse tips, sound tips, and virus tips.

ThirdAge
ThirdAge Media is the leading Internet media, membership and affinity marketing company for first-wave baby boomers. Through online, broadcast and print outlets plus live events, ThirdAge provides a mix of services and products for adults in their mid-40s through 50s. The Third Age Learning Center provides free online classes that you can take at your own pace. This site also provides a Computer Section, consisting of articles related to computer skills and web pointers.
