Course on Preventing Elder Misuse of Alcohol and Medicines The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention now offers Web-based courses for people interested in preventing and reducing problems related to older adults' misuse of alcohol and medications. There are two course available for study:
The courses discuss the problems of alcohol and medication misuse in older adults, risk factors, signs and symptoms, how to talk to older adults, prevention, intervention, treatment, and legal issues and ethical concerns. These course are offered as a service of Prevention Pathways which offers prevention courses that are free to the public. Some courses are meant for professionals and will have continuing education credits available (fees may be charged for credits, but there is no charge to view the material). Other courses are designed to provide helpful information to members of the general public interested in prevention topics. Prevention Pathways is a gateway to information on prevention programs, program implementation, evaluation technical assistance, online courses, and a wealth of other prevention resources. This site is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).
